North West, 13, shows lip piercings at Paris Fashion Week — solo music tour next

Just two weeks after her 13th birthday, North West walked into the Vetements menswear spring-summer 2027 show at Paris Fashion Week on June 26 with angel lip piercings, marking her boldest body mod debut yet. And here’s the thing: this isn’t just a kid experimenting in her mom’s closet. North took the stage solo for the first time at Lyrical Lemonade’s Summer Smash 2026 music festival in Bridgeview, Illinois on June 12, days before the Paris moment. She’s building a real career, not playing dress-up.

North strolled into Vetements’ Paris Fashion Week show Friday with her signature blue hair and 2 new angel bite piercings on her top lip. But the lip piercings were just one layer. The 13-year-old sported a few more facial piercings including on her cheekbones and across the bridge of her nose. North has been growing her piercing collection over the last year — she first debuted a dermal piercing on her hand last year and has been spotted in public with nose piercings, cheek studs and other finger piercings. The kid is not holding back.

North let her bright hair and sparkling piercings do all the talking in Paris, opting for an all-black outfit consisting of a Vetements sweatshirt with a pleated mini skirt, ripped tights, and platform boots from the Vetements x New Rock collection. She added some dimension with a spiked choker necklace and bracelet. The fit was pure goth-punk energy — exactly what a 13-year-old with her reach and resources would wear if she had zero patience for Instagram-friendly pastels.

But here’s what separates the Vetements moment from just another celebrity kid moment: North is actively building as an artist. In 2026, she released her debut EP N0rth4evr. The teen rapper — who is set to embark on a 14-date tour alongside Molly Santana after releasing her debut EP ‘N0rth4Evr’ in May — has never shied away from experimenting with her accessories. Paris Fashion Week wasn’t a vacation moment; it was a runway moment between festival sets and a co-headliner tour.

For context, North’s parents — Kim Kardashian and ex Kanye West — have been feeding her into the culture machine since infancy. Raised around some of the biggest names in the industry and regularly attending Fashion Week events since she was a child, she’s developed a style that’s all her own, blending high fashion with streetwear and alternative influences. But there’s a difference between being parented by fame and building your own lane. The lip piercings, the blue hair, the Molly Santana tour, the Paris front-row debut — these are intentional moves that suggest North is already thinking about her image the way an A-list artist would.

Caitlin Moran of The Times described the collaboration as “in no way a useful career step for her” and criticised Kanye for using it to “continue his demented psychological warfare against his ex-wife — at the expense of their child”. Moran’s take is worth sitting with: there’s real tension between what North wants to build and what her co-parenting situation pressures her to do. A kid this visible gets pulled in a million directions. The question isn’t whether those piercings look fire (they do). It’s whether North’s building her own thing or being used as a chess piece in her parents’ ongoing drama.

The 16BARS take: North West just turned 13 and already has better fashion stakes than most rappers twice her age — but the piercings and Paris moment matter less than whether she can use this moment to step out from under her parents’ shadows and build something actually hers.
