Attendees were notified around 11 p.m. that the artist would not be performing. No explanation was offered and fans lit Weezy up on social media for being rude and disrespectful to his fans — yet the response from the culture was almost resigned. Reddit wasn’t shocked. Waterfront Concerts President Alex Gray tried to soften the blow. Gray apologized to the crowd saying that this had never happened to them before after 251 shows. Even further back: he canceled a show in South Carolina in 2017 when he refused to go through security, wouldn’t perform in Miami in 2019 when he refused to go through security again, and missed three performances in Minneapolis in 2015 and 2017.
The context matters. Wayne’s been dealing with his own head space — and the industry has been dismissing him. In April 2026, Wayne posted to X: “It’s truly a humbling experience when events like Coachella & the Grammys come around & like clockwork,I’m uninvited & uninvolved.” He’s on the receiving end of generational snubs. His latest album, Tha Carter VI, got no Grammy nominations. Coachella passed. The Super Bowl halftime show in his own city went to Kendrick.
