The British political commentator was apprehended by ICE at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on August 27, arrested for overstaying his visa after legally entering the U.S. in May 2019. Now he’s locked in an ICE detention facility facing removal from the country—the very outcome he’d publicly championed for undocumented immigrants.
The timing? Impeccable. Ye was scheduled to perform that Friday night at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, and Yiannopoulos was in Louisiana ahead of the show. Sources suggest he was there in connection with the concert, though ICE hasn’t clarified the exact circumstances of his detention at the airport. What we know for certain: an immigration judge issued a final removal order on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to show for his hearing. He was in the country illegally, and now he’s facing deportation.
This is where the irony gets thick. Before his arrest, Yiannopoulos had been one of the loudest voices calling for expanded ICE authority. In June 2025, he posted a photo reading “papers please,” demanding on-the-spot deportations for anyone who couldn’t prove legal status. Last September, he tweeted “Justice system should be just ICE.” The same agency he’d staunchly defended came for him—and he had nowhere to run.
Yiannopoulos spent nearly two years as Ye’s chief of staff before the two parted ways in 2024. During that tenure, he was deeply embedded in Ye’s political operations, serving as director of political operations for the YE24 presidential campaign. He was also heavily involved in Yeezy’s corporate orbit before he exited over Ye’s porn division plans, citing moral and religious objections. But despite the split, he continued working as a spokesperson for Ye’s camp, most recently defending against reports that Ye and Bianca Censori had separated.
